Learning Development Project

This programme is the latest of jole rider’s introductions and, becoming operational in September 2009, will provide another valuable stimulus to learning and teaching, supporting our mission-
                   “changing lives through education”

The Learning Development Project [LDP] runs in direct parallel with its sister books4Africa, and plays a unique role for learning and teaching.

The programme, based at our Learning Development Centre at Sifoe Senior Secondary School, in western Gambia, has three main functions:
          1. The Mustering Station for educational material from the UK.
The Centre acts as a Learning Resource Centre for both students and teachers at all regional schools enjoying
          access to the Centre.
Excess materials are distributed to other schools in the local region

          2. The Centre director leads a team working with schools in the UK and The Gambia to promote International
          School Partnerships [school linking].
Objectives include the origination of international school partnerships and facilitating on-going linked project work
between linked schools throughout the academic year

          3. The Centre provides the focal point for students, teachers and academics coming together to share views,
challenges, solutions and particularly new ideas. Teachers from the UK and elsewhere are welcome to spend
periods of time there for exactly this purpose

The formal opening of the Learning Development Centre is timed for January 2010, when we expect to be well on the path to having the Centre resourced and fully operational.

If you are a teacher or academic and would like to know more about how you can become involved with the Centre and its work, visiting or even working at the Centre as part of a teacher secondment opportunity, then do make contact to discuss possibilities.
We will be able to accommodate our first visitors at the start of 2010

In the meantime, if you or your organisation can help by contributing to this fantastic facility, whether that means providing resources in the form of useful materials and equipment, then we are waiting to hear from you.
